Syracuse, NY – The County Awards ceremony held during the 2025 County Convention. The American Legion Medal of Merit was awarded to Herbert Dunmore Jr., Lawrence Behling, Glen Wheelock Jr., and Charles Iavarone.
From the beginning of his tenure as Onondaga County Commander, Robert Haumann set goals to promote and improve the Legion’s Youth Programs: the Oratorical Competition, Boy’s State and Boy’s Nation, Legion Baseball, and Junior Shooting. These goals have been achieved and surpassed, primarily due to the steadfast dedication and unwavering commitment of these men alongside him.
The American Legion Medal of Merit honors those among us who excel, either through individual performance or ability, in promoting the American Legion’s programs and making significant contributions to our overall mission.
It celebrates selfless dedication, personal integrity, and drive towards perfection, all of which have been demonstrated by these Legionnaires. Their work has had a significant impact on the youth in our community and inspired hope for a brighter future.
On that day, we hade the honor of recognizing Legionnaires whose outstanding performance has enabled them to achieve this level of service to our community; may they serve as a source of inspiration for all of us.
